Charis welcomes author, restorative yoga, meditation, Yoga Nidra teacher, activist, and former public school writing teacher Octavia Raheem for this nurturing evening of resting and writing. 

This virtual rest and writing experience includes: 

● Opening yoga and meditation class focused on entering the heart of the writer within 

● time to focus on your own writing 

● Reading from Pause, Rest, Be: Stillness Practices for Courage in Times of Change 

● Practice to rest and reflect on the day 

As a participant, you are encouraged to clear your calendar for at least 30 minutes before our time together, pre-plan for food/snacks for the evening, and dedicate a sweet chunk of your day to soul-care, creativity, and making space for inner revelation to arrive. You’ll also want to make sure that your home/space is as conducive for you to rest, write, and take refuge as possible. 

You will need: 

Pillows, blankets, bolsters 

Journal and something to write with 

Stable WiFi

No prior experience is necessary. 

Octavia Raheem is a mother, author of Gather, activist, and an experienced yoga teacher and practitioner. She began practicing yoga in 1999 and has been teaching since 2007. Octavia founded Starshine & Clay, an online and retreat space for Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color to rest and restore. Octavia has received national attention for her work training yoga teachers and diversifying the yoga and wellness industry. Her work has been featured in Yoga JournalMantra, Well + Good, CNN, WXIA, and Atlanta Magazine

Born and raised in Gainesville, Georgia, her spirituality encompasses the universe and is very much anchored in the heart and soul of the sacred community she was raised in: Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church. 

Octavia has a distinctive voice. One that is wise, otherworldly, and also familiar. Her teaching is grounded in her roots and real-life experience as a woman learning to love herself as well as center her well-being and transformation via yoga, rest, meditation, and Yoga Nidra. 

This event is free and open to all people, especially to those who have no income or low income right now, but we encourage and appreciate a solidarity donation in support of the work of Charis Circle, our programming non-profit.
