National Poetry Month: Cliterati Open No Mic Featuring doris davenport

Event date:
Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm

Charis and Cliterati pair up to present an inviting and fierce open mic & reading series on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This month's feature is doris davenport.
With a terminal contract (read, "fired") from a college teaching job, doris davenport returned home to Northeast Georgia (Cleveland) in August 2015. doris is an iconoclastic literary & performance poet who variously or simultaneously defines herself as a lesbian-feminist bi-amorous anarchist Affrilachian. Consequently, she says she feels like the original "sister outsider" living out intersectionality,  yet still definitely a two-headed womon and voodoo chile.

Twenty years (or more) ago since her first Charis poetry performance, doris still delivers truth, cognitive dissonance and joy with her multi-dimensional poetry. Working against all the isms for all her life, she uses caustic humor, satire and hyperbole to achieve her (artistic) ends.

She has degrees from Paine College (B.A. English, '69), SUNY Buffalo (M.A.) and the University of Southern California (Ph.D. Literature).  She has published ten books of poetry, articles, reviews and essays including an entry in the classic anthology, This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color (eds. G. Anzaldua & C. Moraga). She will be reading from her two latest books, 65/poems (2014) and performance pieces (2016) and her forthcoming book, rectify my soul: poems.

This is a Charis Circle From Margin to Center Literary Event. The Suggested Donation for Charis Circle is $5.
