Charis and USSW Present May Day: Women Workers Lead the Struggle. Join us for a panel of worker organizers for a discussion on women workers at the frontlines of unionizing the workplace. Organizers will discuss the significance of May Day and the work that labor organizers are doing locally and across the South. Following the panel attendees will participate in a Q&A to learn more about the efforts to unionize. May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is a holiday to commemorate the 1886 Chicago Haymarket riot and the workers’ movements that have both flourished and suffered in the years since. The original May Day protest sought not only an 8-hour workday but to truly build democratic control of their workplaces.
