From Her to Her to Her: A Matriarchal Poetic Lineage

Join Charis for a very special National Poetry Month Celebration: "From Her to Her to Her: A Matriarchal Poetic Lineage" Featuroing poetsL Marilyn Kallet, Karen Head, and Sarah O. Oso.

Marilyn Kallet is the author of 18 books, including How Our Bodies Learned, The Love That Moves Me and Packing Light: New and Selected Poems, poetry from Black Widow Press. She has translated Paul Eluard’s Last Love Poems, Pèret’s The Big Game, and co-translated Chantal Bizzini’s Disenchanted City. Dr. Kallet is Nancy Moore Goslee Professor of English at the University of Tennessee. She also leads writing workshops for VCCA-France in Auvillar. She has performed her poems on campuses and in theaters across the United States as well as in France and Poland, as a guest of the U.S. Embassy’s “America Presents” program. 

Karen Head is the author of Disrupt This! MOOC’s and the Promises of Technology. She has published four books of poetry (Sassing, My Paris Year, Shadow Boxes and On Occasion: Four Poets, One Year), co-edited the anthology Teaching as a Human Experience: An Anthology of Poetry, and exhibited several acclaimed digital projects. Her project “Monumental” (part of Antony Gormley’s One and Other Project) was detailed in a TIME online mini-documentary. In 2010, she won the Oxford International Women’s Festival Poetry Prize.  She is an Associate Professor at Georgia Tech and is the Editor of Atlanta Review.

Sarah O. Oso is the inaugural winner of the 2017 Georgia Tech School of Literature Media, and Communication Creative Writing Award. She was recognized for her poem “Heritage,” which was published in Four Ties Lit Review. Oso has recently completed and hopes to publish her first chapbook, The History of Balance and Deep-breathing. She lives in Atlanta and is a fourth-year pre-law student at Georgia Tech, where she is pursuing degrees in both Public Policy and Applied Language/Intercultural Studies.
