Charis welcomes NOVA CYPRESS BLACK for Behind the Scenes: QTPOC Screenwriting Workshop. Are you curious about how to write a scene for the screen? Already hip to the basics but currently in the trenches of a creativity block? This generative workshop offers compassionate accountability to help queer & trans writers of color actually get words on the page. We will use various writing prompts to compose new scenes & help catalyze your next juicy TV or film idea. All community members are invited to participate with the acknowledgment that this is a space that centers queer and trans writers' thoughts, creativity, and lived experiences.

NOVA CYPRESS BLACK (dey/dem/NOVA) is a collage of Midwest tranquility, Southern hospitality, & East Coast grit. Dey write deir name in all caps as a reminder to take up space as a Black trans-gender-expansive lighthouse. NOVA was a Staff Writer on season 3 of Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q & co-wrote episode 304. Dey are a proud alum of the 2021 Outfest Screenwriting Lab & the 2021 Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. Deir 1-hour sci-fi pilot BLACKSEED made the 2022 GLAAD List. NOVA’s first short film SWEET TOOTH is exclusively screening on RevoltTV in a compilation of Damn Write Original shorts called SEVEN. Currently represented by Circle of Confusion & UTA, NOVA has several projects in development while working on their directorial debut, an experimental documentary about non-binary folks of the African diaspora. Dey are currently an artist-in-residence at Sequoia Ascension in Atlanta, GA.  www.novacypressblack.com
