Stories for Free Children: Story Hour with Perri Chandler

Event date:
Saturday, September 16, 2017 - 10:30am to 11:15am

Perri Chandler

Our Stories for Free Children Story Hour is back and we are so honored to have community member and activist Perri Chandler in the house to share some of her favorite stories. Children of all ages are welcome to attend with their parents. Join us the 3rd Saturday of every month as we invite local children's book authors and community members to read their favorite stories for free children. This is a Charis Circle Strong Families Whole Children Program. The suggested donation is $5 but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

About Perri:

Born in Pittsburgh, PA (GO STEELERS!) but raised in Atlanta, Perri D. Chandler has fond memories of stomping through the halls of schools in APS. The International Baccalaureate Program at North Atlanta inspired her to continue her studies in Washington, DC.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, with a concentration in Comparative and International Race Relations from American University.  This very specific field of study, combined with a dedication to education and social justice, introduced Perri to the inspirational work of the Anti-Defamation League. As an ADL facilitator for the past 11 years, she promotes creating communities of respect in schools and neighborhoods through educational (and sometimes emotional) workshops with students, administrators, and parents. The goal of the work is to create inclusive, diverse, and safe environments through exploration and taking ownership of our explicit and implicit biases, dismantling positive and negative stereotypes, and acknowledging all levels of privilege.

Perri is a stay-at-home mom of her twin- in the form of an energetic and vibrant 6-year-old, named Chandler. She is married to an intown residential developer that she has known for so long that she affectionately refers to their relationship as “corn flakes – taste them again for the first time”. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, watching movies, and doing absolutely nothing.
