Race Conscious Parenting Collective

Event date:
Wednesday, June 24, 2020 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

The Race Conscious Parenting Collective is designed to support the ongoing development of white parents and educators of white, multiracial children, and children of color, who are seeking to unlearn and dismantle white supremacy within their families, schools, neighborhoods and faith communities. Beginning on Wednesday, May 27th this group will meet via Zoom. Parents and educators of color are welcome to attend and participate if desired, however, the aim of this group is for white parents to develop tools and skills to teach themselves and their children how to fight systemic racism. We have chosen to construct this group in this way as the result of multi-racial conversations about the need for a place for white parents to process their own racism and internalized racial superiority without burdening people of color with the processing of white folks' feelings. This group works in coalition with multi-racial parenting groups when appropriate. It assumes the best intent, an intersectional feminist approach (we all live at the intersection of multiple identities), and an understanding that white people must take the lead in dismantling white supremacy. This group is for parents and educators of children and teens of all ages as well as parents-to-be. It is facilitated by parent and organizer Shannon Gaggero, E.R. Anderson, Executive Director of Charis Circle, and Beth-Ann Buitekant, a local family and school therapist.

This zoom meeting requires a reservation. By joining the zoom call you agree to abide by the guiding principles of the group and code of conduct, including confidentiality, and will not record audio or video of any portion of the meeting without prior consent of the organizers.
