Author’s Discussion and Book Signing
In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Auburn Avenue
Research Library will host author (and Charis Writing with Intent member), Charlise Lyles, who will discuss her the
second edition of her memoir, Do I Dare Disturb the Universe? From the Projects
to Prep School.
Do I Dare Disturb the Universe? is a memoir of girlhood growing up Afro and American
on the cusp of a new era. Page after page follows one sassy girl’s trajectory through
the opportunities, politics, and happenings that rocked the east side of Cleveland,
Ohio, in the post-civil rights years of the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is
the story of a single destiny caught up in America’s endless story of race,
class and education that will enthrall and inspire adults, as well as middle-
and high-school readers.
