Do I Dare Disturb the Universe? is a memoir of girlhood growing up Afro and American on the cusp of a new era. Page after page follows one sassy girl’s trajectory through the opportunities, politics, and happenings that rocked the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, in the post-civil rights years of the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is the story of a single destiny caught up in America’s endless story of race, class and education that will enthrall and inspire adults, as well as middle- and high-school readers.
