Charis and Cliterati pair up to
present an inviting and fierce open mic & reading series on the 3rd
Thursday of every month. Hosted by the anarchic spoken word team of
Karen G and Theresa Davis, members of the Art Amok Slam Team, this
series cultivates the voices of authors, novices and an assortment of
poets, songstresses and storytellers. This month's featured performer is Mariana Mcdonald whose poetry has appeared in numerous publications, including the forthcoming Texas Review Press’ The Southern PoetryAnthology: Georgia; Sugar Mule; From a Bend in the River: 100 New Orleans Poets, and El Boletín Nacional. A
bicultural poet writing in English and in Spanish, Mariana Mcdonald
moved from New Orleans to Atlanta in 2001, where she works as a
scientist addressing health disparities. She became a Fellow of
Georgia’s Hambidge Arts Center in summer 2012, where she completed the
full-length poetry manuscript A Darkness.
